Dalhousie Proudly Represents East Coast at CURC

On October 31st and November 1st, 2015, the Canadian University Rowing Championships (CURC) was held, for the first time ever, East of the Olympic Basin in Montreal and came to Lochaber, Nova Scotia. This historic event, hosted by St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish, brought rowing crews from across the country to the East Coast to battle for the title of Men’s and Women’s Canadian University Champions.

Dal made some impressive finishes, finishing ahead of our Atlantic Rivals, St. FX, in all but one of our races. Some notable races include:

-Lightweight Women 2x (Kat Merwin and Lauren Hodgins) who finished in 1st place in the C Final with an impressive time of 7:59.14
-Lightweight Women 1x (Kat Merwin) who finished in 3rd place in the B Final with a time of 8:34.94
-Women 1x (Lizzie O’Carrol) who finished in 4th place in the B Final with a time of  8:36.60
-Men 2- (Connor Booker and Matt McGreer) who finished 4th in the B Final with a time of 7:28.48
-Lightweight Women 4+

Our Men’s and Women’s 8+’s finished in 3rd and 4th places in the B Finals, with times of 6:27.68 and 7:25.53 respectively. For a full list of results in both the time trials (October 31) and the finals (November 1), head on over to our results page: https://dalrowing.com/results/. Congratulations to the University of Western Ontario, who took home both the Men’s and Women’s Championship titles this year. In overall points totals, Dal’s men finished 12th and Dal’s women finished 9th out of the 22 participating universities.

Dalhousie is extremely proud of all its athletes, who have trained so hard throughout the season. We will be training even harder over the winter and through the summer so we can come out even stronger next season.
